Venice belongs to whoever is up early or out late. See St Mark's Square at dawn, then lose the crowds in Cannaregio, where locals gather along the Fondamenta della Misericordia for cicchetti and a small glass of wine. Shop the Rialto Market in the morning, ride vaporetto line 1 the length of the Grand Canal, and cross to Giudecca for a quieter view back. Dorsoduro has the galleries and the evening light. In February, Carnival fills the campi with masks.
